Life Story : Ms. Muer North

Ms. Muer North, a devoted mother has shown remarkable strength in the face of hardship. Living in a rural village with her son and daughter who has severe cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities. Ms. Muer North represented her husband, a landmine survivor, in joining the project. Her daughter requires constant care and lies on the floor most of the time, adding to the family’s daily challenges.

Before joining the project, Ms. Muer North earned a meager income of only $0.75 to $1.00 per day by repairing fishing nets. It was barely enough to feed her family.

“Sometimes, I had no food for my children or money to buy medicine when they were sick. It was very difficult.”

Her life took a turn when she received financial support from the project. With the initial support, she started a small grocery business in her village. Now, she earns around $7-10 a day. This steady income allows her to provide sufficient food for her family and even save money to reinvest in her business.

With her savings and the monthly allowances, she receives, Ms. Muer North was able to purchase a mini scooter allowing her to travel to Battambang’s central market to stock up on supplies for her grocery shop.

She proudly says she has a stable job and a reliable income. Beyond improving her family’s daily living conditions, her success has also supported her son’s education, offering hope for a better future.
